the following:
My late father who passed
away on Nov 3rd spent the last forty years researching the Bevan family and it has
fallen upon me to continue. One of his grandfather's nephews, David Bevan, a collier
born between 1902 - 1907, son of John emigrated in the early 1930s to the US and
lived at 44 Sydenham Place, Philadelphia. There were two children - Gwynith b in
1921 & Mary 1924 - 1970. Mary had two children, Mary and David but I have no
surname. In those days it was necessary for David Bevan of Fair View, Pengam to
accumulate £100 before he could go the States. He worked hard in the colliery on
the coalface and at last reached the target of £100. In Trelyn there was just one
Bank - Lloyds and when David Bevan of Fair View went to collect the money he was
informed by the cashier that he had 'overdrawn'. David Bevan knew that this was not
true but guessed that the mistake was made by the new clerk who must have debited
one of the weekly business payments made by my grandfather, David Bevan of
Glan-y-Nant, his first cousin, to the wrong David Bevan of Fair View, Pengam.
Neither had a second Christian name for in both cases they were the second son named
after their common grandfather, just plainly David Bevan, b 1840. Gwynith married Robert
Washam and lived at Merion Station, Philadelphia. I have no record of any issue.
