Eliza Worsham
"Elija"
Eliza was b abt 1816 in VA. Eliza, a widow, is in the 1880 Crawford Co, GA
census, living with her son, Thomas Worsham. The 1880 record has her birth in Virginia.
She has not been positively identified before 1880, however, she most certainly was a
descendant of the David G. Worsham Sr.
slave family. David G. Worsham Sr b abt 1766 in Amelia Co, VA, traveled from
Amelia Co, VA to Lunenburg Co, VA abt 1810 and in 1815 died in Milledgeville, Baldwin
Co, GA. By 1830 some of his children settled in Crawford Co, GA. David's son,
Archibald Worsham, m Lucinda Barrow Smith in 1819 in Baldwin Co, GA. Archibald
Worsham died abt 1826 Baldwin Co, GA, and his wife, Lucinda inherited his slaves.
In 1850, Lucinda Worsham (see page 304 of Worsham and Washam Family History), owned 4
slaves in Crawford Co, GA (age, sex): 37 Female, 6 Female, 4 Female, 3 Male. The
female slave b abt 1813 is most likely Eliza. In 1860, Eliza is identified as a
Lucinda Worsham Mulatto female slave b abt 1815. At that time they lived in Beasley,
Crawford Co, GA.
In total, there were 31 slaves belonging to Worsham families in Crawford Co., GA in
1850. The largest slave owner was David G. Worsham Sr.'s son, David G. Worsham Jr.
b. 22 Feb 1800 Amelia Co., VA. In 1850 his 18 slaves included (age, sex): 52
Female, 32 Male, 30 Male, 30 Male, 30 Male, 28 Female, 23 Female, 23 Female, 19 Male, 17

In 1860 there were 23 slaves in Worsham families living in Beasley, Crawford Co., GA.
Lucinda's slaves in 1860 were (age, sex, race): 60 Female Black; 45 Female Mulatto; 30
Female Black; 16 Female Black; 13 Male Black; 11 Male Black; 11 Female Black;9 Female
Black; 8 Female Black; 6 Female Black; 4 Female Black. Lucinda Worsham apparently
acquired some of David G. Worsham, Jr. slaves, when died in 1853. Also in 1860,
John R. Worsham, the son of Lucinda, owned slaves in Beasley, Crawford Co, Georgia (age,
sex, race): 37 Male Black, 26 Female Black, 22 Male Mulatto, 19 Female Black, 18 Male
Black, 14 Female Black, 13 Male Black, 9 Female Black, 3 Male Black, 3 Male Black, 2
Male Black, 2 Male Black.
