Esther kept a card that had "Esther" printed in glitter on the front and on the back, it said "given to me by my grandmother Worsham." The card is very old. 1.5.5A.2B.10.2.  Dr Jeremiah Pleasant Worsham & Lulu Smith in picture  were married 25 Mar 1896. He attended Barnes Medical School in St Louis, MO in 1895 & transferred to Southwest Medical School in Dallas, TX where he graduated with honors in 1904. Jeremiah, born in Washington Co, AL, was a son of Pleasant Lee Worsham who served the Confederacy as a 1st Lieut and later was the sheriff of Washington Co, AL.  First picture from Navarro County History, vol. Emhouse

The plat for the townsite, where Emhouse is now, was drawn up in 1906. The Dr. Worsham house was one of the first houses built in Emhouse. The Worsham family in the picture consisted of Mrs. (Lula) Worsham, Elbert, Una, Jerry, Joe, and Raymond.

Second photograph, titled Dr J P Worsham and Family, is from Navarro Co. History, vol 5, 1985, p235: 

"Jeremiah Pleasant Worsham was born in Alabama and moved with his family to Henderson County, TX when six years of age. In 1895 he entered Barnes Medical College in St. Louis, Missouri and was graduated with honors from Southwestern Medical College, Dallas, in 1904. He practiced near Murchison and then moved to King Willow. Within a few years he settled in Emhouse where he remained until 1925 and then moved to Barry. He and his wife, the former Lula Smith of Alma, reared six children and participated in church, school and community affairs."

1.5.5A.2B.10.2.4.3.  Jeremiah Pleasant Worsham "Jerry".  In 1961 Corsicana, he is listed as teaching Speech and History. Jerry Worsham, Barry native and longtime Snyder High School drama director, passed away on May 15, 2000 in Lubbock. Obituary submitted by Don Brownlee Mar 2002

Services will be held Friday, May 19, 2000, at 10:00 a.m., at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana. Burial will be in Pattison Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Griffin-Roughton. A public memorial service will also be held at Scurry County Coliseum in Snyder on Saturday, June 17, 2000 at 3:00 p.m.

A graduate of the University of North Texas, Worsham began his long teaching career at Corsicana High School. He left Corsicana to serve his country in the United States Navy during the early 1960?s, and moved to Snyder in 1966. At Snyder, Worsham led his students to a record in 13 state championships in one-act play competition, earning a distinction as the most successful theater director in U.I.L. history. In fact, Worsham's record is unmatched by any coach or director of any sport or activity in Texas interscholastic history.

Jerry's father Raymond and identical twin brother James, preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Geneva Worsham of Barry; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond Lee and Jody Worsham of Nacogdoches and Charles and Gilda Worsham of Barry; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Rayneva and Aubry Marr and Patsy and Raymond Gorden of Barry and Sarah Hinkle of Fort Worth; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by an extensive "Snyder family" of current and former students who participated in his drama programs.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Jerry P. Worsham Drama Education Foundation, in care of the Snyder National Bank, 1715 25th Street, Snyder, Texas 79549. The primary purpose of the foundation will be the funding of educational programs for drama students.

Former Snyder High School students will serve as pallbearers.

"Years ago, I talked to Stella Worsham, wife of Robert Edward Lee Worsham, in Ada, OK. Not much to go on, but she did say William had a sister Mary, who m William Alford." Very near William Worsham in the 1880 Precinct 6, Fannin Co, TX cens. is Wm. Alford age 31 b AL, his wife Mary A. age 35 b AL & their dau. Ida age 7 b LA. In the 1900 Lamar Co, TX census is Mary Alford b Aug 1846 AL a widow.

1.5.5A.3.2.7.  Augustus Lafayette Worsham "Gustavas" b 1 Apr 1850 Choctaw, AL & d 18 Jan 1899 Scurry, TX.  He is a son of son of John Worsham & Penelope Page.  Augustus did not marry Harriet R Miller, his brother Darius "Derst" did.  Harriet was misplaced along with the children of Darius (see Darius below). Carol Hardin, 2006, wrote:

"I am in contact with one of the grandchildren of Robert and Addie (Worsham) Binnion. She states that Addie's parents were Augustus L. (Lafayette I think its spelled) and Eliza Van Sykle. Augustus' father was John."

Warsham & wife Eliza age 17.  They are in the 1880 Wise Co, TX census as A Warsham age 27 AL & his wife is Eliza age 17 NE.  Eliza is in the 1900 Scurry Co, TX census as E M Worsham b 12/1860, a widow female who had 12 children & 10 were still living. In 1910 Eliza Worsham was living in Pittsburg Co, OK & in 1920 Eliza Worsham is in Morenci, Greenlee Co, AZ.  In the 1910 Pittsburg Co, OK census she is Eliza Worsham.  Augustus was bur in Canyon Cem, Scurry Co, TX as A L Worsham, b 4-1-1850, d 1-18-1899.

1.5.5A.3.2.7.1. Addie L Worsham b Apr 1878 Wise Co, TX. (2-1880; 22-1900) & m Robert Gilmore Binnion were married 28 Mar 1902. Robert was b 1 Sep 1879 TX & d May 1970 Ajo, Pima, AZ. They lived in TX, NM & in Ajo, AZ where he worked as a copper mine watchman.

Carol Hardin, 2012, sent this picture of Addie at her home in Ajo, Arizona. The picture was sent to Carol by Margaret's daughter and is in the possession of Margaret.

 

 

The Binnion Family Bible in 2012 was in the possession of Margaret Moncure, grand-daughter of Robert and Addie Binnion. From the Binnion Bible, provided by Carol Hardin, 2003:

Martin E. Binnion and Sarah L. Hudspeth were married Sept the 6th 1872 San Saba, Texas; Robert G. Binnion and Addie L. Worsham were married March 28, 1902; In Memoriam (in blue ink beside this is printed 1919) J.A. Hudspeth died at his home in Kerrville, Saturday, Aug 7, at 11:20 a.m., after an illness extending over three years. The funeral took place at 2 o'clock the following day, when a large gathering of friends of the family lead the body to its last sleep in Glen Rest Cemetery. the grave was covered over with beautiful floral offerings and the genuine sorrow of all those present evidenced the high esteem in which Mr. Hudspeth was held. the W.G.Garrett, J.M. Thompson, N. Herzog, F.F. Nye and J.E. Grinstead. James Ayres Hudspeth was born in Neshoba County, Miss., February 20, 1842. He went, with hisparents, to Arkansas in his childhood and settled in Drew County. At the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted in the company of his father, Capt. Henry Street Hudspeth, Company B, 2nd Arkansas Cavalry, C.S.A. Colonel Slemmons. He was in the battle of Shiloh, and saw General Beauregard when he received his death wound and was carried from the field. Mr. Hudspeth was later discharged from the service on account of disabilities recieved in line of duty. Feb 24, 1864, he was married to Miss Ann Elizabeth Smith, and in October of the same year they came to Texas and settled in San Saba County. In 1873 the family removed to Bandera County, where they lived until 1895, when they came to Kerrville. For a quarter of a century, Uncle Jimmie Hudspeth, as he was familiarly known by a very host of friends, was a familiar figure on the streets of Kerrville. He was always ready with a cordial greeting and a hearty hand clasp for those he met. He was loyal to his friends and courteous to those who disagreed with him. Of few men can it more truthfully be said, "He was a consistent Christian gentleman of the old school, a kind and loving husband and father, and a changeless friend." Surviving him, besides his aged widow, are three children: Mrs. J.M. Hamilton, of Kerrville, Street Hudspeth of Jena, La., and Miss Minnie L. Hudspeth of Kerrville. Also several grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In the 1920 Safford, Graham, Arizona census John is listed twice.  They lived with Bonnie's parents: Claud S Sargent age 43 b TX house carpenter, Alice age 44 TX.  Living in the home are Claud's children: Claud Jr age 20 b TX, Berdine age 17 b TX, Emil age 15 b TX, Robert age 12 b TX & son in law John Worsham age 33 b TX farm labor & daughter Bonnie Worsham age 18 b TX.  The other entry, John is living next to his sister in the 1920 Safford, Graham Co, AZ census as John Worsham age 34 b TX farmer with Bonnie age 18 TX.

In the 1930 Ajo, Pima Co, AZ census, John J. Washam age 43 b TX is a shift foreman at a copper mine.

"Saturday Services For Nettie Wood, Dies Fri In McCurdy Hospital. Funeral Services for Nettie Lilly Wood, 75, were held Sat in the Yoakum church chapel with Rev. David Mayo officiating. Mrs. Wood died Fri, Dec 21 in the McCurdy Memorial hospital. Born in Hunt co, Texas, she moved to Purcell a year ago with her husband J. C. Wood, who survives her. The Woods were married in Sweetwater, TX, in 1900. She had been a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church for 40 years. Other Survivors are six daughters, Mrs. Effie Willingham, Mrs. Nola Hobbs, Mrs. Thelma Powers, all of Purcell; Mrs. Joseph Powers of Chandler, Mrs. Bessie Cavin of Clayton, N. M., and Mrs. Virgie Wood of Norman; three sons, Clayton of San Bernardino, Calif., Calvin of Oklahoma City and Charles of Lexington. Twenty six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive in addition to a brother, Arthur Worsham of Sweetwater, TX, and a sister, Mrs. Annie Steps of Odessa, TX. Bearers were Russell Conklin, Russell Brumfield, W. U. Stephens, Chester McDonald, Mr. McNabb and Joe Pritchett. Burial was in Hillside Cem."

Edie Leitch also furnished the following article Nettie wrote and sent to unknown newspaper in 1926 or 1927:

"Has Much To Be Thankful For, Says Reader, Mrs. Nettie Wood, Lexington, Ok. I used to write to the cousins' page in 1893; then I wrote in 1905. Have read The Farm News when a child. I have been married almost twenty-seven years and am the mother of ten children, nine living. My baby boy has gone to be with Jesus. He left me when almost 1 year old. October, 1923. I know what sorrow is. I have four boys and three girls at home, one girl working away from home. One is married. I have two Grandchildren, yet life holds much for me. I dearly love Sunday school and church work. I thank the good Lord for my family and for good health, and thank Him above everything else because he made it possible that we may meet our departed loved ones again. I love the beautiful out of doors. It is so pleasant to walk among the flowers and green trees as they spread their boughs toward heaven. It seems they are reaching to God and he answers. And the songs of birds to gladden our hearts-how I love all good and beautiful things. I like to raise chickens and garden and to read good Christian literature and do what good I can while here. So when I meet the Master he may say, " Well done, Thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of the Lord." I am sending a picture of my little boy. Virge Wood, 7 years old. He is in the back yard crop taken last summer."

1.5.5A.4.2.5.  Thomas Jefferson Washam m Almira Ann Lougee. Deed Record in Austin Co from John A. Barrett to Haubert Bros 7 Jul 1890: Lettie Austin Barrett received from her brother, Frank M. Austin, and his wife Lou Austin for the sum of $12,000 in Austin and Washington Counties parts of the James Cochran league and the Joel Lakey league "including said Austin's present dwelling house" This is referenced in deed 13-170-2 in which T.J. Washam & wife convey to Frank Austin 41.5 acres on 12-9-1892 including the house in which Frank Austin "is presently dwelling"  Shirlene Harper, 2002 wrote that Almire Lougee was b Bangor, Penobscot Co, Maine & Aunt Abbie says she rode a train alone from Maine to South Texas as a young woman. Evidently there was a family tragedy and her father, who was a "miller" by trade drowned in a millpond. She met Thomas Jefferson Washam in the Buckhorn/Chappell Hill area and married and never went back to Maine.

WASHAM Charlene Holder, 72, of Edmond, died on April 16, 1994 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born on December 22, 1921 in Shamrock, OK to Viola and Henry Holder. She married John E. Washam on July 12, 1942 in Stillwater, OK. She had lived in Edmond since 1963 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Edmond, OK. She was preceded in death by her husband, John and two brothers, Bill and J. W. Holder. She is survived by three sons, Steve Washam of Edmond, Doug Washam of Edmond & John Washam of Oklahoma City; one brother, Elmer W. Holder of Drumright, OK; & 1 sister, Winifred Lowry of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Geoff, Aaron, David, Tracy &Tony. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 1994 at First Baptist Church of Edmond. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Building Fund at the First Baptist Church of Edmond in memory of Charlene H. Washam.
