Martha moved the family to Garland, Arkansas to live with her father, a well-known breeder of race wpe2C.gif (29652 bytes) horses in Dinwiddie, VA and in Arkansas. The grandfather, William Wynn, sent William Ludson Worsham to college in Virginia where he obtained his law degree. He returned to Arkansas, was a member of the Confederate Army, married Mary Fort White in 1865 then moved to Floresville, Wilson Co., Texas where the couple raised five children. After opening up his law offices, he soon became the County Judge. Judge Worsham was a leading citizen of the community, having founded the Floresville Methodist Church and becoming a member of the Masonic order which supported civic projects. Judge Worsham passed away 15 Feb 1901 in Floresville, Texas. One of the eulogies at his funeral services was delivered by Dr. John V. Blake Sr., who received fame by being written up in the news column, "Believe-It-Or-Not" by Ripley as having delivered 4500 babies and no triplets. Judge "Billy" Worsham was beloved and respected by all in the community. Written by Janice Frost (great grandniece).  William Ludson picture from Janice Frost, 2000.

The following appeared in the Floresville Chronicle News 25 Apr 1931 along with her picture:

"Floresville, TX. The picture shows Mrs. Virginia McDaniel of Floresville, affectionately known as Aunt Jennie, who recently celebrated her ninety-fifth birthday at the home of her son, J. C. McDaniel, of Floresville, with a turkey dinner and celebration in her honor. A pioneer of Wilson County and a resident of Texas since the close of the Civil War, Aunt Jennie has seen this great State grow from a rugged frontier. Mrs. McDaniel was born in 1836 at Washington, Ark., and at 16 was married to Gains Hooks, who died some years later. Following her husband’s death, she and her two children came to Texas, settling at San Antonio with her brother, Capt. W. H. Worsham of the Worsham Avengers fame. She later married Guinn H. McDaniel, who died about forty-five years ago. Mrs. McDaniel, despite her advanced age, is still active. She has been a lifelong member of the Methodist church and until recently took active part in local church work. The living children of Aunt Jennie are four sons, as follows: Joe C. McDaniel of Floresville, Guinn McDaniel of Tucson, Ariz., George McDaniel of Oklahoma and S. J. McDaniel of Henderson. Aunt Jennie makes her home with her sister-in-law, Mrs. John McDaniel, who celebrated her eighty-eighth birth recently."

I have several engraved silver items that were hers and the engraving shows an accent mark over the final "a" of Maria. In fact, her silver baby cup is engraved with just: "RIA`". She will go down in history as Maria not Mariah because of the odd spelling and lack of accent mark.” (Kimberly McDaniel, 2000)

From Janelle Swearingen, member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society:

"Nottoway County. At a meeting of a portion of the friends of the Administration at Nottoway Court-house, on the 6th day of November, 1834, that being Court day, Dr. Henry C. Worsham was called to the Chair, and Dr. P. W. Harper appointed Secretary.
The following preamble and resolutions were then offered by Col. John H. Knight, and adopted unanimously by the meeting:
Whereas, it appears to the satisfaction of this meeting, that a decided majority of the voters of the county have already signed the paper of instruction, having for its object to instruct our Representative to the next General Assembly, to support and vote for William C. Rives, Philip P. Barbour, Andrew Stevenson, or some other Administration candidate for United States Senator, who may prevent the election of Benjamin W. Leigh for that office:
Resolved, therefore, That Col. Samuel B. Jeter, Col. John H. Knight, Col. William Verser, Capt. James E. P. Bacon, Capt. Edward T. Jeffries, Capt. Nathan Ward, Capt. James S. Jeter, Capt. John W. Connally, Capt. James D. Jackson, Rev. Asa Crenshaw, Rev. James M. Jeter, William A. Scott, Charles H. Carter, Williamson Dickerson, Peter J. Grigg, William J. Jennings, William Thomas, Thomas F. Ward, Griel T. Crawlie, John A. Robertson, William B. Mills, Robert Fitzgerald, sr., Robert Fitzgerald, jr., Allen Crenshaw, John Webster, Daniel I. Jackson, George A. Crawlie, John Bland, Dr. James Jones, Dr. George Fitzgerald, Dr. Francis L. Mosely, be appointed a Committe, (any seven of whom may act) to examine and scrutinize all the lists of instructions now before the meeting, and strike therefrom all such names as shall not appear to them to be duly qualified and constitutional voters of the county. On motion of Col. Knight, the Chairman and Secretary were also added to the committee.
Resolved also. That the said committee shall, after their examination and scrutiny, make out a complete consolidated list of all such persons as are qualified voters, and that the Chairman and Secretary of this meeting shall, in due time, transmit a certified copy of the same to our representative.
Resolved, also, That all of the original lists of Instruction be deposited with the Commissioner of the Revenue of the County for preservation, and the inspection of all persons requesting the same.
Resolved, finally, That the procedings of this meeting be signed by the Chairman and Secretary, and be forwarded to the Petersburg Constellation and Richmond Enquisitor, for publication. H. C. Worsham, Chairman. P. W. Harper, Secretary"

From Richmond Enquirer of February 19, 1835:

"Distressing Event! A letter from Nottoway county, dated the 14th instant, states that Dr. W. C. Jackson was shot by Dr. Worsham on Wednesday evening last, and died immediately. The deed was committed on Worsham's plantation, (called Alabama) Jackson being on his way to see a patient at G. W. Tucker's. It is said, that the quarrel grew out of a partly personal, and partly political feud. We have not received the particulars in a form that will justify further statement or any comment."

Another account From the Newport Mercury, February 28, 1835, p 2:

"Fatal Shot.-- On the evening of the 11th inst. at a place called Alabama, Nottaway Co., Virginia, a personal and polical feud, which had long existed between Doctors Worsham and J. C. Jackson, was settled by the death of the latter, who was shot by the former, and died immediately."

Goodwin W. Tucker was listed three names below Henry C. Worsham in the 1830 Nottoway Co., VA census.
