1.5.4.3.2.1.1.1.4. Mary Ann Washam "Mollie" b Sep 1855 Taney Co., MO. The 1870 census is in error and she was not a twin to William Neil Washam (1.5.4.3.2.1.1.1.5.). (4-1860; 17-1870; 25-1880; b Sep 1855-1900; 63-1920) Mary’s position in the family should be swapped with her sister, Margaret Washam (1.5.4.3.2.1.1.1.6., p. 372), who is the twin to William Neil Washam. Mary Washam m Preston Moore 16 Aug 1874 Grayson, TX. Mary Moore is living with her daughter, Nora Bell Moore Redden in the 1900 Dallas TX and 1920 Tarrant Co Census.

1.5.4.3.2.1.1.1.5A.2. Julia N. Washam m 1st) Joe McClanaham 21 Nov 1900 Ellis Co., TX. Julia filed for divorce 11 Dec 1902 in District Court, Dallas Co, TX. The plaintiff asks for a divorce from the defendant on the ground of cruel treatment and non-support. Plaintiff asks for the care and custody of their minor child, for costs etc. In her filing for divorce she claimed she had been a resident of Dallas Co, TX for more than six months. On 21 Nov 1900, she and L. O. McClanahan were married in Waxahactie, TX. At the time she lived in Oak Cliff with her father W. N. Washam. The day after they were married he insisted that she return to her father's home and assured her that he would join her there on the following day, and that he would then arrange a house for her. He did not return to her father's home on 22 Nov 1900 and she did not again see the defendant until the latter part of Jan. 1901 when he came to her father's in Oak Cliff. The defendant lived in the home of her father for several months, repeatedly, assuring her that he would provide a house for her. That during this time both plaintiff and defendant were provided for by plaintiffs father and defendant has never at any time contributed anything to the support of the plaintiff. That after lived with the plaintiff for some months in her father's home, the defendant left her without any cause and wholly without any means of support. That at the time the defendant left her, plaintiff was in a delicate condition and subsequently there to she gave birth to a little girl about October 28, 1901. That the little girl is named Pearl McClanahan, and now is over one year old. That plaintiff and her child have both been supported all the time by her father, and the defendant has never at any time contributed anything to their support. The defendant about two or three months after the said child b went around the community and denied that the child was his, and cast aspersions and insinuations against the virtue and good name of the plaintiff. That plaintiff has always been loyal and faithful wife to the defendant in every way. The sheriff's return, 12 Dec 1902, summoned McClanahan to appear in court the first Monday of Jan 1903. He did not show up for the court hearing and the judge found in favor of Julia. Their marriage was dissolved, Julia was awarded custody of Pearl McClanahan, however, Julia was to pay all costs incurred.   They were divorced 16 Apr 1903 Dallas Co., TX for cruelty & slander & she received custody of child, Pearl. Sallie Jackson Washam, the wife of Camel, amended her will on 9 Mar 1940. Camel’s sister, Maggie Green of Denison, TX was specifically ostracized from the will.

"called Aunt Mag. My grandmother, Sarah and her sister Margaret got married in Denton Co. (I know for certain Margaret did) and my grandmother either in Denton or Grayson Co. They both lived in Denison TX after their marriages. I'll tell you what I know about my great aunt Margaret. I knew her quite well, as she and my mother stayed in touch. We lived in Sherman but Denison is only nine miles from Sherman. She lived to be around 96 and died in Denison. I don't remember the date. A lot of her life's story was published on her b'day every year in the Denison Herald after she attained an advanced age. I used to have a clipping of this but lost it somehow. I could probably get a copy from old newspapers files at the paper or library. I do remember it telling how she married Robert Green in Denton and they boarded the train and came to Denison, where he worked for the Missouri, Kansas & Texas railroad. I think he was a switchman. He worked for the railroad until he retired. They had several children and also raised some grandchildren. The names Sidney & Jesse comes to mind, and some of the children had moved to Detroit, Mich. Aunt Mag was a tiny person only 4ft. 11"."

John C Washam died 30 May 1900 Rendon, Tarrant, TX at the age of 76. (A History of the Rendon Community, Walnut Creek Cem, Rendon, TX p 21) He was buried in Walnut Creek Cem. located on Highway 1187 east of I-35 and west of old US 287 about six miles west of Mansfield, Tarrant Co., TX.  In 1981, 34 identifiable and 11 unidentifiable graves were there. J. Barry Turnage, 1st Lt. Cmdr., Robert E. Lee Camp #239, Sons Of Confederate Veterans, Fort Worth, Texas in 2009 sent the photo of his gravestone & wrote:

After much research, pouring over Confederate records that we have at our disposal       as well as what scant information we have located on the family of John Washam. We have come to the conclusion that John Washam was a member of the 1st Brigade, Missouri State Guard (8th Division). Missouri is one of the Confederate states whose records are a bit incomplete and the Taney County court house was destroyed three time before 1900...twice by Union troops and again after the war; however we are sure enough on this that we are adding him to the Texas Confederate Graves Registry.

J. Barry Turnage 1st Lt. Cmdr. R. E. Lee Camp #239 Sons of Confederate Veterans    Fort Worth, Texas wrote that they erected a veterans gravestone for Pvt. John C. Washam at his grave yesterday, 15 May 2009. "We wanted to remember and honor this man who at the first call stood up and volunteered to protect his state from tyranny. It is important that we do not allow the duty and sacrifice these men made disappear into the undergrowth of our forgotten graveyards."  J. Barry Turnage attached these photos.

1.5.4.3.2.2. Hinds Dunnavant Worsham b abt 1782 Chesterfield Co, VA, m Mary & d bef. 12 May 1845 Pike Co, MO.  His descendants lived in Pike Co, MO; Ripley Co, MO; Pike Co, IL; Beckham Co, OK; Audrain Co, MO.  The will of Hinds D Worsham, dated 12 May 1845, proved 6 June 1845, mentions his wife but she is not named, along with grandson: Napoleon Worsham; sons: Frank, Miles, Hinds, John, Richard & Archibald; & daughter: Martha, her children mentioned but not named. (Pike County Land Deeds, Vol.  I, p 357)   Joesph Lafayette "Fate" Murray, 2004, writes:

"I'm guessing at how Dunnavant is spelled ... my grandmother Mary Cathrine Hurst told me that her grandpa (James Maddison Hurst) son of Noah William Monroe Hurst and Nancy Jane Worsham told her that his grandfather was Hines/Hinds Dunnavant Worsham."

In The Chillicothe Constitution Nov 9 1908, p3:

"Missouri woman would own city, Los Angeles, Cal, Nov 8, That she is one of the rightful owners of 160 acres of land in the heart of Little Rock, Ark., valued at millions of dollars, and occupied illegally by others, is the claim of Mrs. Nancy M. Richardson, a Missouri woman, who lives at 1554 East Forty-eighth place, and whose brother, George Worsham, lives in Bowling Green, Mo. "When he received his honorable discharge in 1812 he was awarded 160 acres of land in Arkansas, the place where Little Rock is located. This award was signed by James Monroe, President of the United States. "My grandfather visited the spot and found it practically a swamp. He considered it worthless and returned to his home in North Carolina, and took his family, left there during his service as a soldier, to Pike County, Mo. settling twelve miles from what is now Bowling Green. "My father was his fifth child and was named Miles, and I am my father's fifth child. My brother, George Worsham, who lives on the old farm near Bowling Green, has the old sheepskin parchment upon which the award was written and which is in a fine state of preservation." Mrs. Richardson came here three years ago and says she will shortly institute action to prove ownership of the Little Rock property. "My grandfather, Hines Worsham, to who the land was given by the Government," said Mrs. Richardson, "was an American, and was born in Buncombe county, North Carolina. He enlisted in the army in 1812, and after the Americans were victorious over the British he finished out his six-year term of enlistment in frontier service, being located at various places between Little Rock and Chicago."

A petition for divorce Alce Worsham vs Archibald Worsham 7 Jan 1852 (Pike Co, MO Circuit Court Records, Vol E, 1847-1852) pp 568,598,600. Alce (Alsey) stated that Archibald Worsham was not a resident of the State of Missouri and he had absented himself from her for upwards of two years and for adultery. She had three children by him: Benjamin F. Worsham aged about fourteen, Minerva Ann Worsham aged about twelve, Carien E. Worsham (Coreen) aged about ten.  She was to have custody of the children. The divorce was granted 11 Sep 1852 as Archibald never appeared in court to defend himself.

Alce is in the 1860 Eugene City, Lane Co, OR, census as A. Washam, age 52 KY, p251 & the 1870 Eugene City, Lane Co, OR, cens. As Alice Worsham, age 62 KY, p471.

Jeannie Miyama, 2010, found that Mrs. Alsey Worsham (wife of Archibald Worsham) died on 10 Jan 1879 and is buried in Tenmile Cemetery, in Tenmile, Douglas Co, Oregon. She found a tribute for her at Find A Grave and now maintains her page there: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=9671566

Illustrated history of Lane County, Oregon. Portland, Or. A.G. Walling. 1884, p497:

"Isaac E Stevens resides at Cogswell's ranch, on the McKenzie; is a stock grower; post office, Eugene City; was born in Ray county, Tennessee, in 1835; arrived in the state in 1847, and in county in 1848; married October 21, 1858, to Careen E. Worsham."

About 4 Jul 1837 Archibald m 2nd) Alsey Johnson b abt 1801 KY.  Alsey m 1st) George Swift b abt 1801 of Caswell, NC & d 11 Mar 1834 Pike, Missouri.  In 1870 Alsey lived in Lane, Oregon.

James A. Walker, Auburn, ME in 2000 wrote the following:

Archibald WORSHAM was born on 14 Oct 1804 in Mecklenburg Co, NC. He died on 27 Mar 1875 in Pike Co, MO. Sarah Elizabeth (Worsham) (Howell) Buchanon told Ann Louise (Howell) Mayhall, her granddaughter, that Archibald owned a family of slaves (Jack, Ester and son, Jim). They took the surname of Worsham when they were freed. A man owed Archibald a debt just before the close of the Civil War. The man was going to sell the slaves and split up the family, so Archibald took them in payment to keep the family together. (As told to Ann Louise (Howell) Mayhall, by her Aunt Mabel Buchanon.) (This contradiction in sources is through two accounts written by Ann Louise (Howell) Mayhall and attributed first to Grandma Buchanon and then to Mabel Buchanon. The story was the same, only the sources differed.)
It was said that Archibald served several years as sheriff of Pike County, Missouri. A list of all Sheriff's that have served in Pike County, Missouri, was received from the County Clerks office, and there was no Worsham on the list. He may have served as sheriff of Pike County, Illinois. A conversation with an employee in the County Clerks office of Pike County, Illinois failed to find any evidence of an Archibald Worsham being elected as Sheriff from 1850 to 1890. Dorothy Tuttle wrote a book on the Worsham line. She has provided information on Archibald and his wives (3 of them) and his children. Dorothy lists Archibald's death as 15 March 1874 in Pike County, Missouri, however, his birth and death is on page 147, Cemetery Records of Pike Co., MO. This book lists his age as 70 years, 5 months, and 13 days, which calculates a date of death as 27 March 1875.
He is probably the Archibald Worsham in the 1850 census for Perry Co, Mo, age 45, born in NC, with wife Sarah, age 35, born in KY, and Sampson Worsham, age 18, born in MO. He also appeared on the 1860 census for Perry Co, MO. Sampson was born about 1832. In 1837 Archibald was married to Alsey Swift; therefore is isn't reasonable that Archibald would have a son born in 1832, unless he was a son of Ann, his first wife.
Archibald is listed on the 1860 census for Perryville, Perry Co, MO, as 55 years old, with his wife, Martha, 21, and their daughter Sarah, 3. He was born in NC, with personal property worth $50 ($725 in 1990 dollars). His occupation was Grader.
On the 1870 census for Pike Co, MO he is 65, born in NC, with the occupation of Basket Maker. His wife Martha is age 32, Sarah 13, Mary E. is age 3.
His wife, Martha, is listed on the 1880 census for Ross Twp, Pike Co, IL, as a widow.
He was married to Martha WORSHAM in 1856 in Pike Co, MO.
