1.3.5.2.2.1. Elizabeth
Branch Worsham. "Elizabeth B. Branch (middle name Branch too) was
the daughter of William and Peggy. She was married to her cousin William
Branch on 11 February 1802." (Farmville - Prince Edward Historical
Society, titled "Worsham Family Square (Cemetery)" by George M.
Walker)
1.3.5.2.2.2. William
H. Worsham b abt 1786 Prince Edward Co., VA. “Virginia
Revolutionary Records Selected Final Pension Payment Vouchers 1818-1864"
abstracted by Alycan F. Pierce, p 635, 1837, Wm Worsham of Prince Edward Co, VA
Court satisfied that the pensioner died leaving no widow but children: William
H. Worsham of GA. William H. Worsham md 1st) Elizabeth
Price, d/o Jacob, 27 Dec 1808 Prince Edward Co., VA. William H.
Worsham md. 2nd) Sarah Walls, 30
Jun 1822 Jackson Co, GA. (37000 Early GA Mrgs) Sarah b 7 Nov 1798 Jackson
Co., GA d/o John & Susannah Walls. (Walls Bible, Claudine Putnam, 2004)
They are in the 1830 Gwinnett Co, GA cens, Wm. H. Worsham, 2m 10-15, 1m 40-50; 2
f <5, 1f 30-40, 1f 40-50. There was a William Worsham from Monroe Co.,
GA who was a fortunate drawer of land in the 1832 Cherokee land lottery located
in Cass Co., GA. Family researcher, Patricia Worsham, believes that the
William Worsham who made that draw never claimed the land and it went back to
the state. However, this connection ties Monroe Co., GA to Cass Co., GA
through William Worsham. Also, Cass Co., GA changed it’s name to Bartow
Co. in 1861 & Bartow Co. adjoins Floyd Co. In the Baldwin Co., GA
Union Recorder newspaper clippings page 62 by Tod Evans, Vol III, 1837-1839
published by Evans in Savannah, GA, 1994, there was a letter remaining at the
Post Office in Forsyth, Monroe Co., GA on 1st Jul 1837 for William
Worsham. There might be a connection to the John Worsham who was in the
list of letters remaining in the Post Office at Forsyth, Monroe Co., GA on 1 Oct
1835, pg 237 of the Union Recorder newspaper clippings. In the 1840
Forsyth Co, GA Cens. (Gwinnett Co, GA borders Forsyth Co. & Cherokee Co.
separates Forsyth and Cass Co.) is W. H. Worsham, p. 369, 3 m < 5, 1m 50-60;
1f < 5, 1f 5-10, 1f 10-15 & 1f 40-50. In addition, William Worsham,
is in the 1840 Cass Co., GA census with 10 children. William Worsham b abt
1786 VA & Sarah b abt 1799 SC are in the 1850 Co., Cass Co., GA census, p
166, age 64, house carpenter. The family is discussed in the Pope Co., AR,
Vol 2, Pope Historical Assoc., 1981, Joster's Pub., Topeka, KS. Children:
(Patricia Worsham & Jerry H. Adams)
William
H. & Elizabeth probably had a son (see page 783):
1.3.5.2.2.2A.1 William
Bolton Worsham b 1815 VA. md 1st) Susan
abt 1840. Susan b 1816 SC. He is on the 1850 Gwinnett Co., GA Census, p 187. He md
2nd) Mary A. Windsor who was b Aug 1841 GA. Joanne Folsom,
2005, wrote:
"Mary's
maiden name is from the final settlement of the will of her father, Anderson Windsor in
1910. (Book 20 page 8-11 ) The will was recorded in Gwinnett Co, Georgia 11 Mar 1886.
(Will book D page 339-340) Anderson died Dec 1885. Anderson had six children by Clarissa
Brown his first wife and three by his second wife Sarah. Mary Worsham is listed as one
of the heirs of Anderson Windsor on the final settlement. She was the only child of the
first marriage still living at that time. The three daughters by the second marriage
were living, all the rest named were Anderson grandchildren."
William is on the 1870 Pinkneyville, Gwinnett Co. Census, p 10. (see page 783) Mary died 8 Aug 1929 in Chattooga Ga.
William & Sarah children:
1.3.5.2.2.2B.1. Sarah
Worsham b abt 1829 of Cass Co., GA. (21-1850) Miss. Sarah Worsham md. W. T. Wilson 20 Apr 1879 Galla Rock, Pope Co., AR. (Galla Rock,
Pope Co., AR Marriages, Bk E, p 293) She is age 35 & J. T. is age 40. There is
connection between this Wilson family and the Worsham's. They were neighbors in the GA
Census records in 1850 and 1860. They apparently migrated together from Cass Co., GA to
Pope Co., AR. Two members of the Wilson family affirmed John E. Worsham's service in the
60th GA in his AR Confederate Pension Application, saying that they had known
him for 45 years and knew of his service. This Wilson family was from SC. In the 1880
Galla Rock, Pope, AR cens, is John T. Wilson, age 53, & wife Sarah, age 45 GA. Her
father was b. VA & mother b. GA.
1.3.5.2.2.2B.2. John
Elbert Worsham b 13 Jan 1832 of Cass Co., GA. (18-1850) He is probably in the
1860 Crawford Co., GA cens, living with Wm. Burgy, as John Worsham age 27 SC, p896.
"John Elbert who was one of General Jubal Early's troops who attempted to capture
Washington, DC, was shot at Monocacy River, hospitalized at Frederick, Maryland and
recovered and was in a prisoner of war exchange." (Pope Co, AR, vol II, Pope Co
Historical Assoc, 1981, Josten's Publishing Co, Topeka, KS by Bertrand R. Worsham)
He md Amanda Melvina Tanner abt 1869 probably in Bartow
Co., GA. Melvina b Jan 1852 GA. Another date of birth is 15 Feb 1855. (Pat Worsham, 1997)
Her age varies with every census, her tombstone, and her death certificate. They
probably moved to Pope Co. between 1871 and 1875. Shirley Tanner McDonald, 1999, wrote:
"My Great Grandfather was Alen Tanner and in the 1870 Bartow Co., GA cens. His
first wife was Rachel Loudermilk. He was a RR worker according to the cens. He moved to
Wood Co. TX. possibly with the RR. Sometime in the 1880's Rachel passed away and he came
to AR where a lot of his family had moved from GA. He had a sister, Amanda Melvina
Tanner Worsham." It was said that John built three houses upon arrival in
Galla Rock. He is age 42 in the 1880 Galla Rock, Pope Co., AR Census. They are in the
1900 Burnett, Pope Co., AR cens. as John E. b. Jan 1833 & Viney b. Jan 1852. Picture from Bertrand R. Worsham, 1981, also in Pope Co, AR, vol II,
Pope Co Historical Assoc, 1981, Josten's Publishing Co, Topeka, KS by Bertrand R.
Worsham.
The name Elbert is in the Pope Co. History
book by Bertrand. They were Methodist. Patricia Worsham believed this Tanner line was
from Haralson Co., GA. Two of Melvina's brothers, Allen and Richard also migrated to
Pope Co. Richard was a hemophiliac and Melvina was a carrier. Patricia Worsham suspects
that some of the male Worsham children may have died young from this disease.
John E Worsham, claimed residence in Bartow
Co., enlisted 25 April 1862, Private, served Georgia Enlisted H Co. 60th Inf Reg. GA,
(Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia 1861-1865). John E. Worsham’s AR
Confederate Pension Application places him with the Cass Co. Confederate group. AR Conf.
Veterans & widows pension application lists John Elbert Worsham, widow Melvina, Co H
60 regiment GA I, 1862-65, app. 26 Aug 1901 in Pope Co, AR; deceased. 7/25/08. John E's
AR Confederate Pension Application places him with the Cass Co. Confederate group. John
was wounded by a shot in the left side and part of a tree fell on his right arm. He was
taken prisoner at the Battle of Monocacy, MD. He was later send to Point Lookout POW
camp and eventually was exchanged.

GRANGER, former Dothan barber, is under $500 bond at Montgomery in the slaying of
another barber, E. E. WIRSHAM, in a Montgomery barbershop Saturday afternoon, it
was revealed here today. The shooting is reported to have been the outgrowth of a
disagreement several days before when Granger was temporarily placed in charge of
the barbershop during the absence of the owner. According to witnesses Granger
pumped two pistol bullets into Wersham's chest after the latter had made a remark
to Granger in an undertone. Earlier in the day, it was reported, Worsham struck
Granger several times, knocking off his glasses.

Rebecca Worsham, daughter of Branch
Sr. and his wife, Susanna. Born 17 August 1835
and died 6 October 1832
Emma
Worsham daughter of Branch Sr. and his wife, Susanna. Born 31 October 1835 and died 17 September 1837
Elizabeth
Hatton Worsham daughter of Branch Jr. and his wife Mary Mettauer Hatton.
Elizabeth was born 13 November 1877 and died 24 April 1878
One
of the graves for whom no name is given is certainly occupied by Branch
Jones Worsham, Sr. Born 18 December 1788, Died 26 May 1873. Joseph Barrye
Wall in an article on "Old Homes of Prince Edward" in Today and
Yesterday writes of Branch Sr.'s final resting place: "In the Worsham
family grave yard, he was buried by the side of his father, William Worsham, a
soldier of the Revolution."
Others
who may later occupy the grave yard could be:
Mary
Mettauer Hatton Worsham, wife of Branch, Jr. Born 3 June 1851 and died 9 August
1878 (Their most unusual love story makes me believe she has to be
there.)
Branch
Jones Worsham Jr. born 5 August 1833 and died 29 October 1913. According
to a notice in the Farmville Herald on Friday, October 31, 1913, he died in
Williamsburg but was buried "in the family Square at Worsham."
I
believe that his was the last grave. His
oldest son, Branch III was buried in Bluefield, W. VA and his second son, my
grandfather, John Mettauer Worsham, was buried in the Oak City Cemetery in
Bainbridge, GA. According to a death
notice in the Decatur newspaper. He
died 15 February,1919.
I did not make a photocopy of the map - I merely drew a copy. The above
information is taken from that map. It would not be difficult to get a copy
made.”

"Linus Price Hayes,
Pulaski, VA, Civil Engineering. Skipper Hayes arrived at Tech along with
many other young hopefuls after being graduated from Central High School,
Washington, D.C. He displayed no special characteristics except a facility
for getting in bad with upperclassmen. Military had no direct appeal to
him but a Christmas corporalship gave him a taste for chevrons, and a gold
band together with the title of "Skipper" completed his military
career. He became interested in Tech publications the latter part of his
rat year and has continued to work in this field throughout college. The
editorship of The Virginia Tech was his greatest achievement. But, not
satisfied with this honor, he conceived the idea of establishing a new
publication, called the V. P. I. Skipper. This comic magazine was quite
successful and is now one of the recognized student publications.
Skipper has left his mark at V. P. I. and he has served his college
well. He put his best into his work and this best brought results both to
himself and to V. P. I.

They were living in Prince Edward Co., VA. Relationship was not given,
(Genealogical Abstracts, Rev. War Veterans, 1852 Scrip Act" by Margie G.
Brown, 1991) This is what Ms Brown stated: "The 1852 Script Act were papers
which covered the last Bounty distribution for American Revolutionary War
service. When Va. ceded her western lands to the new United States, she did so
with a promise that all of the bounty lands in VA veterans would be honored. In
1852 there were still 800 claims, the Veteran was long dead, and most of his
children, many of these show descent into the 4th and 5th
generations.
