Correction: The Vann Chapel Cemetery has two n's because it was on land granted to a member of the Vann family from the Cherokee enrollment.  It is on private property but nicely maintained.  Marilu Waybourn of Flora Vista, NM has photos of most of the Washam and Waybourn headstones in this cemetery.  The Chapel is gone and the cemetery is in the middle of an open field, but is fenced.

My grandparents were farmers raising their children on the farm until my Uncle Harold went into the army, and my mother and aunt were older, but in high school. At this time my grandparents moved into Springfield where my grandfather had a store. They lived on Campbell right across the street from the high school where my mother and aunt graduation. My mother married Jay C. Hopkins, and my aunt married Irvin Rogers. My uncle Harold and his wife my aunt Jean are the last of the Washam family as I know it. Although my grandfather had his brothers that were younger, he helped raise them due to his mother dying after the youngest. It was my grandfather that took care of his brothers, making sure that they went to school. In fact that is how my grandparents met. My grandmother was the teacher at the school that my grandfather 's brothers went to school. My grandfather did not go to school beyond elementary due to the need for him to work the farm in which his parents owned and promised his mother that he would make sure his brothers went to school. I remember my grandfather telling me as a young child that he lived in the Cherokee territory, his mother was a Bible translator, and translated the Lord's Prayer into Cherokee.

Mark Richard Washam - While peacefully sleeping the morning of April 8, 2008, our beloved son, brother, and uncle went to Heaven to be with our Lord. The Earth was blessed with Mark's arrival October 16, 1958. His younger years were spent in Puyallup enjoying friends such as the Oppelts and Nelsons while attending Woodland, Firgrove Elementary, Ballou Jr. High, and Rogers High School. He was a talented photographer, leading him to awards for his work in the magazines Model Railroader and Vintage Fashion. Mark was always "Mr. Fix It". Devoting his career to the hardware business, Mark was a leader at Ernst and McLendon Hardware. His motto was "Always do any job the best you can!" He loved the waves of the ocean, the silence of the forest, and the thrill of a rollercoaster ride!
