Shelby, IL. He md. America Howard 7 Mar 1826 Russellville, Logan, KY. She was b.
abt. 1812 of Logan, KY, and d. 17 Apr 1854 Shelby, IL. James is in the 1830
& 1840 Sangamon Co, IL census.
On 10 Aug 1838 America Worsham of Sangamon Co., IL received a Patent for land
located on the south half of the South East quarter of Section thirty one in
Township fourteen North of the Base line of Range Two East, of the third
principal meridian in the District of Lands subject to sale at Vandalia, IL
containing eighty acres (BLM Lands Cert No. 5131)
James and America are in the 1850 Flatbranch,
Shelby Co, IL census. They are both bur. Snyder-Traughber Cem, Moweaqua, Shelby
Co, IL. According to the History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon County:
" MAXCY, JOEL, was born about 1759, in Rockingham county. Va. He was a
soldier in a Virginia regiment in time of the Revolution, and was in the battle
of Guilford Court House. He remembered having seen Generals Marion, Morgan,
DeKalb and Gates. He was married after the war in Prince Edward county, to Mrs.
Susan Hill, whose maiden name was Davis. She had five children by her first
marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Maxcy had three children in Virginia; and in 1798 moved
to Warren county, near Bowling Green, Ky., where one child was born. Mrs. Susan
Maxcy died there Aug. 27, 1812. Of her four children, one only ever came to
Sangamon county… Joel Maxcy was married in Butler county, Ky., to Mrs. Betsey
A. Howard, whose maiden name was Brown. She was born Feb. 14, 1795, in Prince
Edward county, Va. She had two children, Mordecai and America Howard, both of
whom married and died in Shelby county, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Maxcy had two children
born in Butler county, Ky., and moved to Logan county -- same State, -- where
three children were born; and the family moved to Sangamon county, Ill.,
arriving Nov., 1827, at Springfield, and soon after moved to Island Grove
township, north of Little Spring creek.... Joel Maxcy died Dec. 27, 1827, in
Sangamon county. His widow lived with her son, Samuel O., but went to visit her
children by the first marriage, and died in Shelby county Feb. 11, 1856."

On 8 Nov 1854 M. R. Worsham resigned as administrator of the estate of James
Worsham & Joel M. Worsham and wanted to have the court appoint someone else
to settle the business of each estate. An Administrator’s bond was issued to
Michael Shnider of Christian County and Charles A. Tackett of Shelby Co for
$2000 security on 18 Dec 1854 as Administrator of Joel M. Worsham, dec’d.
Michael Shnider was appointed as Administrator for James Worsham. James Worsham
died intestate on or about 18 Apr 1854 & Joel M. Worsham died intestate on
or about 19 Mar 1854. Guardian Bond was issued to William H. Snell, Samuel D.
West, & Wm K. Eaton for the use of John Bryon Worsham, minor heir of James
Worsham, dec’d. Letters of Guardianship issued to William Snell July term of
Court 1855 (Shelby Co., IL Probate Book A 1854-1856 pp 39 -42; p 111; pp
229-230)
