Sandley family gave land for church, by Curtis Thomasson, Feb 3, 2005

It is convenient to feature the Sandley family from which a descendant married into the King family as presented in the past two columns. Two Sandley children, Patience and John, appear to have been orphaned when their parents died at a young age. Some records suggest the father's name was also John Sandley. The two children are listed in the home of John T. and Mary A. (Sandley) Polk in the 1870 Census of Crenshaw County. It is believed Mary A. was a sister to the father of John and Patience. In the 1870 census, John is eight years old, and Patience is 10. Patience was married to John Foster King, son of Rufus D. and Elizabeth (Vickery) King. They reared the following children: John Daniel, b. 1877, m. Martha Wishum (1874-1914); Idell; Mary E., b. 1882, d. 1904, m. 1902 Adwell Elliott Wishum; Sallie B., b. 1885, d. 1938, m. Lewis J. Jerry Wishum, 2009 wrote:

"George had a second son John E. Wishum born in 1854. He is in the 1860 census as John E. Worsham age 6 living with Nancy and Robert E. Jordan. In 1870 he was still with the same family (now J. Wishom and 17) and 1880 he had moved to Escambia  Co, Alabama (only 20 miles away) and was married with two sons (now John Wishone age 30)  John and James were well known laborers in Covington County in the 1800's according to the Wyley Ward book "The Folks of Pea Ridge.""
